Seminar 2010

The creative juices really flowed in February when the Creative Floral Arrangers of the Americas met for the Annual Seminar at the Orlando Marriott Hotel. The event was an outstanding success as members gathered to learn, to socialize and to be inspired. "Kaleidoscope" is the name given to a fabulous display of designs that is presented each year at the Seminar. These dramatic designs are arrayed around the hotel and, once again, the talent of CFAA members was readily apparent. The Seminar got underway with a Preview Cocktail Party, followed by a delicious Banquet meal and Design Program featuring Jacqueline Headecker, AIFD. Jacqueline came all the way from Ontario, Canada to bring her challenging ideas and designs to the group. What a fabulous kick-off for the 2010 Seminar.

There were SIX outstanding design programs given for members during the At the SeminarSeminar, and these stimulating and innovative lectures / demonstrations were enthusiastically received by attendees. Participating were many vendors who displayed the latest supplies in floral arranging trends and the tools that make it all work! The dedicated members of the Committee who worked throughout the year with preparations for the Seminar deserve kudos and thanks. Many hours of planning and work go into making the Seminar a memorable and rewarding experience each year.

There is discussion underway about opening up the opportunity for members and prospective members to be able to join CFAA, to pay annual dues and to register for the Seminar ONLINE. We are considering the use of PayPal and want to know if there is enough interest in this method of payment for us to pursue it. We would like feedback and you may let us know your thoughts by emailing Jan Sillik, Web Coordinator, at the following email address: gluegunjan@aol.com. This would be a convenience for our members but we need to know if there is sufficient interest to offset the costs of setting up and maintaining PayPal.

The Seminar is always a great place for mingling with friends - old and new - and for exchanging ideas, tips and techniques for advanced creative floral design. At the SeminarThis is an evolving art form and it is obvious that CFAA members are truly passionate about continuing to study and learn more about the challenging art of contemporary floral design.

UPCOMING EVENT- WAFA WORLD FLOWER SHOW

Everyone is looking forward to the upcoming 10th WAFA WORLD FLOWER SHOW, to be titled, This Glorious Earth, to be held June 15 - 19, 2011 in Boston, Massachusetts. This will be a time to view breathtaking designs - 600 in all - created by designers from around the world. The new design book, Flower Arranging the American Way is a fund raiser to defray the expenses for the show, and every serious designer will want to own a copy of this book, which can be obtained by visiting the WAFA USA website - www.wafausa.org. The Flower show will be held at the Seaport World Trade Center, and will be the opportunity of a lifetime for seeing fabulous floral artistry.

WORKSHOPS

A popular component of the CFAA Seminar for several years has been the offering of Contrived Flower Workshops led by Claudia Bates assisted by Martha Ann Ronsonet. Claudia is a 7th generation Floridian and retired Middle School Teacher. She has served as president of the Gainesville Garden Club in Florida and is an NGC Accredited Master Flower Show Judge and an NGC-FSS Design Instructor. There were workshops this year on creating botanically correct, faux versions of the iris, gladiola and hibiscus. These are fashioned of long-lasting dried plant materials, and can be used over and over again as design components.
